We are all still on a high!

Perhaps the greatest night in the history of Athboy Celtic took place on Saturday night as 200 of you filled the Darnley Lodge for a fundraising event that exceeded our wildest expectations.

Athboy Celtic has grown exponentially in the last 10 years, with 30+ teams across all age groups, somewhere in the region of 500 players, 800 -1000 parents and numerous club members and supporters.

We have been ambitious in developing state-of-the-art facilities to match that.

It would be a lie if we said a fundraiser of the scale of Quid Game wasn't a step into the unknown - nothing like this had ever been attempted by the club.

But what a success it was.

In total, some €107,000 was raised between the fundraising of our 28 contestants and the massive support of the entire town and further afield in sponsorship.

We want to thank each and every one of you for your efforts and support over the past few months.

Something like this couldn't have been achieved without coaches, parents, players, volunteers and committee members driving it on.

A special mention also to the winners.

Winner, Cillian Maguire has spent the best part of the past 20 years representing the senior team at Athboy Celtic and has been with the club through every age group since he was a child, while also captaining the men's first team for a number of years.

Runner-up Bambi Fasanya embraced volunteerism with the club by putting his hand up for Quid Game, with his son Omari joining Athboy Celtic a year ago and currently playing for the under-6 team.

Everyone can wear the Athboy Celtic colours with great pride around the town.

Club Secretary Senan Edwards:

"What an amazing night to bring our monumental fundraiser for Athboy Celtic to a close and celebrate the next exciting chapter for our club, the newest facility in the Cow Park, a state-of-the-art, full-size, floodlit all-weather pitch.

"We are immensely proud of every coach, player and parent who has put so much time, effort and energy into making this fundraiser such a success over the past few months. A huge thank you also to all of our sponsors and local businesses who supported us throughout the fundraiser. Your generosity and backing of Athboy Celtic is hugely appreciated and has played a massive part in helping us reach this milestone.

"This has truly been a community effort, and it shows what can be achieved when everyone pulls together for the benefit of Athboy Celtic."

Club Chairman Bernard O'Byrne:

"The words 'thanks' and 'fantastic' just seem totally inadequate after this tsunami of success. My biggest pleasure was seeing the interaction of so many people involved in different parts of the club coming together over the last three months and especially on Saturday night. Well done and thanks. See you all again at the opening of the new pitch before Christmas."
